Food Wars! Season 6 fans are eagerly waiting for next season to see a new Food Wars! Season 6 Shokugeki no Soma: The Fifth Plate but it doesn’t appear that the animated series will return anytime soon.

Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma season five concluded in September 2020. The hit anime series remained popular for many years, with the anime adaptation scoring an astounding 8.2/10 rating on  IMDB and  8.18/10 on  MyAnimeList .

Food Wars! (aka Sōma of the Shokugeki) is based on a manga series written by Yuto Tsukada and illustrated by Shun Saeki. The anime adaptation of Food Wars! directed by Yoshitomo Yonetani, began airing on April 4, 2015, and a total of 85 episodes were broadcast so far.

Food Wars Season 6 Announcement & Release Date

As much as we love to see another season for Food Wars,  it seems unlikely for the anime series to return to season 6 anymore . Shortly after season 4 ended, the renewal announcement for Food Wars season 5 came. However, season 5 will also be the final season for the series

Currently, at the time of writing, J.C.Staff or licensees have not renewed the series for a sixth season. The fifth season of the series was defined as the final season:  the manga is currently fully adapted, and no new season is expected. The studio’s 2022 works do not contain the anime’s new season.

There are some criteria we can look at first to understand whether the series will have a 6th season. One of them is whether there is enough source material for anime.

The latest volume of the manga ranked 13th on the best-selling manga list of 2019. The manga series, which aired 36 volumes in total, progressed in parallel with the anime series and shared its last episode in 2019. The manga series is now complete and isn’t ongoing anymore.

Albeit, fans shouldn’t lose hope because there are still other ways for the anime to return in the form of OVA’s, prequel series, or even a movie. We already have five OVA episodes, 2 episodes in 2016, 2 episodes in 2017, and a final episode in 2018.

The series follows Soma Yukihira, a hopeful teenager aspiring to become a full-time chef in his father’s family restaurant. Soma wants to surpass his father’s cooking skills.

He enrolls in Totsuki Saryo Culinary Institute, an elite culinary school where students engage in cooking battles. Throughout the series, we have seen Soma hone his skills and carve his name in the culinary world. 

Food Wars! Season 5 Ending Review

The final season of Food Wars! was served through Food Wars: The Fifth Plate, also known in other territories as Shokugeki no Soma: The Fifth Plate. Fans had mixed emotions regarding the season finale. Others are sad that the hit series will finally come to an end.
