FAQs
There are a few questions that come up frequently in most conversations with my clients, I thought I would compile a list for you to help you plan your day and search for the right photographer.
How would you describe your approach to wedding photography?
” I try to work as the invisible man and not be part of the story I am documenting. Let those you are photographing do their job and find the pictures in what they are doing without interfering.” Ted Grant, Canadian photographer. I never ask my clients to ‘create or re-create a moment’, rather , I am attentive and mindful of people’s emotion and apply my ability in capturing them. Details in decor are also very important and I take the time to appreciate and photograph significant details being put into a wedding to help illustrate the personality and hospitality of the host and hostess.
What type of cameras do you use?
I use two Nikon D3′s. I choose these cameras because of their rugged build quality, full frame sensor, accurate auto-focus, responsive operation and their incredible low light capabilities.
What type of lenses do you use?
I use exclusively Nikon Lenses simply because of their build quality and multilayer lens coating technology. My favorite lenses are 35mm 2.0, 50mm 1.4 , 85mm 1.4.
Why not zoom lenses?
I use primarily prime lenses (fixed focal length) simply because of their fast aperture and sharpness, but also because of the outstanding quality in imagery these lenses are able to produce. We photographers call it Bokeh. I also find that big zoom lenses often limit the photographer’s real involvement with his subjects.
“If your pictures aren’t good enough, you aren’t close enough.” Robert Capa
Raw or jpeg?
I shoot everything RAW, but you will receive high resolution (300 dpi), colour corrected jpegs from the final edit in the end.
What exactly is a final edit?
A final edit is a collection of the best images captured from an event. The photographer (that’s me) spends a full day or two going through every single RAW image and carefully single out the absolute best to create a final edit. A well known British photographer once compared this topic to a fine dinning experience. ” You don’t want the chef to give you everything he’s got in the kitchen, just have him bring you his best and most delicious.”
How many images can I expect to receive in the end ?
It depends on the duration of the coverage, generally speaking, you can expect 450-750 images from a full day (8-10 hours) coverage in the final edit.
Do you use assistants or a 2nd photographer?
I don’t hire assistants, I simply don’t see the need for an assistant with my approach to wedding photography. But if the logistics of the wedding require a 2nd photographer, it can be arranged.
How much is your retainer (deposit)?
$800 is required to secure a booking. The retainer is paid when you sign the contract – this is a non-refundable deposit and holds my services for you on your chosen wedding day.
How long will it take before I get to see my wedding photos at the online gallery?
It normally takes 4-6 weeks from the day of the wedding.
Do I get to choose the images for the wedding album and print set ?
Yes and No. I normally choose all the images on behalf of clients for the album. The reason is because I am responsible for the layout, typography and graphic design. The selection of the right images to go with the design is crucial. My approach in designing an album is to tell the story of your wedding day from start to finish, all the albums are custom design from the ground up. However, a PDF of the layout will be sent to the client for approval before printing. Same for the print set. I normally select 100 of my personal favorites and produce a set of prints consisting a mix of Colour and Black & White premium prints for my clients.
